Faculty: Includes tenure, tenure-track, and other full-time and part-time faculty.
Department chairs and their respective deans assure faculty qualifications consistent with
SACS guidelines, and the deans' offices maintain faculty transcripts, which reflect the highest
earned degree.
Other Instructional Staff:
The UA web-based Teaching Credentials system also includes selected personnel whose primary
responsibilities are not instructional but who have appropriate academic credentials, teach
courses, conduct research, direct students, assist with research projects of students, direct
field work of students, or provide consultation on research or instructional projects. The
Assistant Academic Vice President for Administration monitors non-faculty and part-time faculty
appointments in accordance with SACS guidelines.
In a few cases, UAOPS does not accurately reflect teaching load. This may occur, for example, when
faculty provide oversight for recitation sessions, supervise self-paced instruction in foreign
languages, or supervise clinical components of courses; the current information system will show
these as multiple course sections. Teaching load also may be under-represented for faculty
teaching multiple sections of independent studies, thesis research, etc., which are courses not
included in UAOPS.
GTAs: All GTAs are approved as shown in the
SACS
18-Hour Rule Flowchart and as described in
SACS
and the 18-Hour Rule.
